The annual Heartwork Collective Meetings are a space for bringing like-minded students and learners together to share, collaborate, and move ideas into the real world. The opportunity is open to both those engaged in higher education (e.g., graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, early career researchers) and those engaged in work for their community (e.g., resource managers, language holders, harvesters, youth, etc.). The common thread between meeting participants is that they are engaged in Indigenous Research Methods and they are interested in increasing the understanding and relationship between Indigenous research paradigms and western science.
This is a networking space for people to meet each other and inspire change -- please note that there is no formal training at this meeting. Participants are expected to be self-motivated and come to the event with potential ideas/projects that align with The Heartwork Collective goals to share with the group. Meeting participants are asked to take on leadership roles and be accountable in shaping and supporting the future work of the collective. As the in-person time together is short, opportunities for additional online meetings and discussions beyond the face-to-face meeting will be supported.
Items on a meeting agenda might include meeting and sharing with other participants, group discussions, break-out groups, and land-based activities. We will likely be spending some time outdoors and in the community of the host Nation that the meeting takes place on. Much of the meeting time is unstructured to allow for participants to develop connections and pursue discussion topics of interest.
