Dakwäkäda (Haines Junction, Yukon)
October 1 - 5th, 2026
This will be the third meeting and the third cohort intake of The Heartwork Collective. It will take place in from October 1 -5th, 2026. Meeting participants must arrive to Whitehorse, Yukon on or before October 1st and depart on or after October 5th. Accommodation will be provided for the nights of October 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Transportation to and from the Whitehorse Airport will be provided. Travel bursaries of up to $1,000 CND are available to Indigenous and/or student participants.
Accommodations will be in two AirBnB's located nearby each other in Haines Junction. Some participants will need to share rooms which will be organized with participant input ahead of time. Groceries and recipes for meals of all dietary requirements will be provided. Participants will coordinate a schedule, cook meals, and clean together. Everyone is expected to pitch in. We will likely be spending some time out on the land. Please be prepared to pack warm clothes and dress accordingly.
There is a requirement of endorsement from a nominator such as an academic supervisor, an organization, a community, or a colleague. The nominator is also responsible for incurring any costs related to travel over $1,000 CND. The nominator will need to indicate their support and details within the application. If an applicant is selected to participate, the nominator will be required to sign a declaration of support. Through the provision of this support, the institution, program, organization or community will become a collaborator with The Heartwork Collective. These contributions will be recognized and reported to Braiding Knowledges Canada (which is funding food, accommodations, facilitation, and activities).

Applications can be submitted through the Survey Monkey portal linked below. The application deadline is August 16th, 2026 at 11:59pm. Applicants will be notified of their invitation to participate ASAP after the closing deadline.
Selection criteria are 1) level of engagement with Indigenous research methods, 2) relationship with an Indigenous Nation, 3) ideas/concepts for discussion and/or collaboration. Final selection will strive for geographic representation from across Canada, to be a mix of academics and community members, and Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants.
